Ask A Therapist: Breaking Down The Question: How Will I Get There?
The final question in our four-week journey of self-exploration comes down to planning. Over the last four weeks, we broke down and learned what you truly want, need, and how you want to feel. Now, we put these learnings into action. We can lead ourselves to where we want to go when we know where we are. In this conversation, we break down how to set sustainable, workable intentions and how to create a goal plan that works in the short and long term.
Ask A Therapist: Calling Yourself Out
Taking personal accountability is often a difficult task. It requires us to own our actions, decisions, and the consequences. While acknowledging our missteps is not usually complicated, focusing on the mistakes without making excuses is. Personal responsibility is the backbone of your growth and developing integrity. In this week’s conversation, we look at your life’s compass. We are talking about where we must take accountability and where we need to let go. We are also walking through a tool that helps you break down the places you are unsure where the responsibility lies.
Ask A Therapist: Developing A Strong Sense of Self
Developing a sense of self is necessary to thrive in your life, both in the present and the future. When we begin the journey of self-exploration and growth, we often do not know where to start. In this week’s conversation, we look at the pathway to creating a solid sense of self through exploring your values, interests, and boundaries, reflecting on your experience, and understanding what truly matters to you. Embracing who you are and honoring the past and the present allows you to focus on a sense of self. We are breaking it all down in this deep-dive conversation.
Ask A Therapist: Emotional Bypassing Vs Emotional Processing
Our emotions are guides, impulses, to direct your thoughts and feelings toward what is most important to you in the short and long run. In times of heightened emotions, trauma, or even day-to-day living that feels heavier, many of us have the habit of pushing our emotions aside and bypassing the need/act of processing what is currently working to get our attention. In this week's Ask A Therapist, we are breaking down the difference between emotional bypassing and emotional processing, and I'm handing over a tool that helps you break down what is happening within the span of your day that may cause you to create the bypassing in the first place. When we do not check in, offer ourselves a gauge point, we often do not address what's needed and necesssary until a problem or emotion begins to overwhelm us. Learning how to process correctly, in the moment an emotion occurs, and doing so with a gounded process helps you live mindfully, actively, and with a great sense of joy. Forty-four percent of our nation’s adults are reading and writing at a fourth-grade level. What’s even scarier is nearly 20 percent of high schoolers graduated last year without the skill to read.
Despite this staggering facts, the White House has released its proposed budget for FY2019 that slashes federal funding for a vital tool in education— libraries and museums.

I saw a post on my local city’s Facebook page a few months ago about an author and fellow resident who was having a book signing at our local Half-Price Books. I was really excited to meet her because supporting local authors is a great way to expand my reading horizons and also to give them support and help get the word out about their writing.
