The new year is here, which means many people are thinking about new goals, resolutions, and intentions, but with this massive push to create change often comes a feeling of not being good enough as we are and the current state of our lives. But the great news is even when this mindset finds us, we always have a choice to shift our perspective.

And that’s just what Ava from Arizona wrote in and asked for. She said, “Danielle, I hate the new year! I’m not too fond of resolutions. I don’t like acting like everything changes because the calendar changes. I am struggling with being okay with where I am, and all the conversations about making the new year different are too much for me. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I feel like I am supposed to be living differently because everyone else seems to be doing just that. So how can I be okay with where I am? I’m working on change, but I don’t feel it has to be set into everyone else’s timeframes. Please help!”

Ava, I completely agree! What you want, need, and are working to create never has to be in anyone else’s timeframe! As to the question of how we can be happy where we currently are—let’s dive right in and do a bit of evaluation. Because whether it’s the start of a new year or a day in July, being happy with where we are is about our state of mind and focus and appointing ourselves as the influencers of our lives.

Happiness is a choice.
