Epi 212: Stop Being So Offended - Mindset Reset

Sadly, we now live in a world where being offended by even the littlest thing is a standard. Yet, by not getting offended so quickly, you minimize your stress levels and open yourself up to new ideas, thought processes, emotions, and experiences.

Bella Jean from Portland, Oregon, wrote in and said: “Danielle, I have been working on growing and becoming a better person over the last year, but there’s something that I can’t quite grow out of yet. That’s not taking offense when someone questions my thoughts or feelings or when my family tells me I’m wrong because they haven’t done all the work on themselves that I have done. It’s tiring, and I want to let things slide off my shoulders, but I don’t know how. Can you help?”

Here’s the reality. Your ego doesn’t like to be threatened.

What being offended comes down to is rightness. You are right, and there is a black-and-white frame to everything. That’s not true. There will always be more than one way to solve the same equation. There will always be more than one way to get to an answer.

When we are offended, we are grasping our beliefs too tightly.

Whether it’s something small like someone is rude at the grocery store or you have a heated discussion with someone, realize you can save yourself a ton of wasted energy by not connecting with things that don’t align and simply say “Interesting perspective” and move on. If it isn’t worth your energy, it’s not worth your mindset shifting.
