Epi 176: What is a Growth Mindset– Mindset Reset

In everything, there is something for you. This simple sentence is quite powerful as it reminds us that no matter what finds us, we can use it to our advantage.

Today’s mindset reset question comes from Georgia in Memphis, Tennessee. She wrote in and said, “Danielle, I am actively working on my mindset. I realized a few months ago that I have spent a lot of my life living through a negative mindset. Something was always wrong. I never felt like good things could or would happen to me. And, drama seems to follow me no matter where I go. I want to change it, but when I looked up what a growth mindset after listening to one of your podcasts I became confused. There’s so much information out there. I thought maybe you could make it simpler and perhaps offer a simple exercise that will help me get into a growth mindset.

The growth mindset truly resides in the wise mind. Grasping the mind’s inner workings beyond how thought is validated, or storytelling patterns of the brain is next-level-life-together mastery, and it starts with getting into the wise mind.  The three active states of the mind are the reasonable mind, the emotional mind, and the wise mind. Whether we like it or not, we all actively use each of these states, but most of us tend to gravitate toward one specific area the majority of the time.

With the “Wise Mind” we can:

Retain or regain calmness in stressful or uncomfortable experiences.

Find clarity.

Create peace and pleasurable experiences.

Hone a deeper understanding of self.

Tame the beast of limiting beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and habits.

Recognize and regulate emotions.

Enhance our relationship with self and others.

Grow in emotional intelligence.

So, to go back to Georgia’s original question, what is a growth mindsey? We want to take the factors of the wise brain and then move them into growth-centered practices.

The person with a growth mindset accepts criticism and negativity not as something they are lacking, but instead as constructive feedback.

They equate rewards with their efforts and they celebrate their successes, big and small.

They see setbacks not as full stops, nor as failures, but as a way to grow in strength and reset where needed.

Persistence and an attitude to never give up is always high in their life operations.

Asks the question: How can I serve? What more can I do? Am I following my passion?
